Practicing Confidence In Life

Confidence is seemingly the magical ingredient that allows some to breeze through life while others wallow in some form of insecurity. Believe it or not, confidence is not an innate trait that some people are born with. Sure, it comes more naturally to some than it does to others, but it is something that can be learned. Once you understand how to allow yourself to feel confidence, you will find that all sorts of doors swing open for you.

Insecurity is a human condition. Everyone, Everyone feels it at some point. Those that don’t, if there is anyone out there, is likely sociopathic. So the first step is to admit that you can get insecure about something. If you are looking out for a blog of this nature, it’s because you are aware of something you need to work on. Working on those things will make you stronger, recognizing insecurity actually brings growth.

It begins with our conversations to ourselves. I wrote about this in my blog about positivity and it goes hand in hand. If we purposefully use positive verbiage to ourselves and exercise our positivity muscle enough, it will begin to set in naturally. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?

There are several very simple things you can do to improve your confidence. For instance, wake up 15 minutes earlier than normal every morning and meditate. This will set you up to think positively for the rest of the day and serve as a reminder to have love for yourself.

You can also try practicing positive self-talk to yourself in the mirror. Its called The Mirror Technique. It sounds silly, but if you walk up to your mirror at home and say to yourself “I am going to do great today, I am going to accomplish my goals, I am going to take pride in myself,” you will find yourself start to smile. And you will believe it, because look at you! You are trying which is a step in the right direction.

You can also try an exercise that is a bit more involved. Think of someone you admire, someone you aspire to be like, and write down what values they have that make you feel respect towards them. Are they hard workers? Are they exceptionally kind? Charitable? When you finish writing, look back at your list of their values the same as your own? This will allow you to understand what areas of your life you can work on and feel pride in some of the things you are already doing

The key is to actively recognize the areas that you lack confidence in, and slowly work towards exercising the muscle. Work to become 1% better every day (you don’t need to be thrown right into the bullpen), and eventually it will become part of who you are.
